No shit. Plenty of rock bands over the last 40 years could play circles around the Dead from technical perspective, but being proficient and having that certain "IT" are two different things...

I heard a recent radio interview where Gary Hoey said Jeff Beck was his favorite, because where others try to play fast, Beck can kill you with one note.

A great example? Go to You Tube and search for Guthrie Govan. Speed freak and he's not even the fastest out there. I saw a clip of some metal head doing some kind of 4 string sweep seizure thingie at over 360 bpm (advertised - I didn't count)

It boils down to this for me - do I like what I hear and am enjoying the supporting experience while hearing it?

I think the whole of the Grateful Dead experience was that it was its own self enabling petri dish for cool shit to grow in.

Hell, even the occasional troll is fun to kick around.......
